Electronic Arts has announced that online servers for "Grid Legends" will be taken offline later this year on PlayStation and Xbox platforms. The racing game, which launched in 2022, will lose its multiplayer functionality, though the single-player campaign and other offline modes will remain playable.
The shutdown affects the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S versions. Players on these consoles will no longer be able to access online races, leaderboards, or any features that require an internet connection. The decision comes as part of a broader trend of older titles losing server support as publishers shift focus to newer releases.
Interestingly, the announcement does not mention the Nintendo Switch 2 version, which was recently announced for the upcoming console. This has led some to speculate that the Switch 2 port might launch with its own separate online infrastructure, or that it could arrive after the current-gen servers go dark. EA has not clarified whether the Switch 2 version will include online play from day one.
For players who have invested time in the game's online career mode or competitive events, the window to finish those activities is closing. The exact date for the server shutdown has not been specified, but EA recommends completing any online-focused achievements or trophies before the end of the year. Physical and digital copies of the game will still work for offline play, but any purchased DLC tied to online functionality may become unusable.
