PS5 officially has 5 must-play new games releasing in August 2026

Sony's PlayStation 5 is heading into late summer with a slate of heavy hitters that should keep every kind of player busy. While the year started with a few quiet months, August 2026 is shaping up to be a genuine turning point, with five major releases officially confirmed for the platform. These aren't just filler titles either. We are talking about big licensed properties, long-awaited sequels, and a couple of fresh ideas that could become cult classics.

The biggest draw for many will be the new Marvel project, which is said to push the hardware harder than anything before it. Early previews suggest a dense open world with a fast-paced combat system that rewards creative combos. On the Star Wars side, a brand new adventure is set to explore a corner of the galaxy we have not seen in a game yet, focusing on a smuggler story with a heavy emphasis on ship customization and dogfights. Both titles are being built from the ground up for the PS5, meaning near-instant load times and full use of the DualSense's haptic triggers.

Beyond the obvious blockbusters, there is a moody indie horror game that is already getting buzz for its clever use of sound, plus a stylish action RPG from a smaller studio that mixes Japanese folklore with modern Tokyo. Rounding out the list is a remaster of a beloved PS2 classic, which has been given a full visual overhaul but keeps the original's quirky charm. With all five hitting within the same month, it might be wise to start clearing your backlog now. August is going to be expensive, but it looks worth it.
