Destin Daniel Cretton, the director of the upcoming "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," has revealed that the Insomniac video game series served as a major reference point for the film's action sequences. In a recent interview, Cretton explained that the stunt team actively studied the games to capture the specific feel of Spider-Man's movements.
According to Cretton, the stunt department brought in screen grabs directly from the gameplay. They used these images as visual guides to choreograph how the web-slinger should move through the city. The director noted that the games have a distinct rhythm and physicality that feels both grounded and superhuman. He wanted to translate that same energy into live-action without simply copying the camera angles.
Cretton emphasized that the goal was not to recreate the game frame-for-frame, but to capture its spirit. The games, he said, understand the physics of swinging and the quick, acrobatic style of combat better than most films have. By using the game as a blueprint, the team could focus on making the stunts feel more fluid and dynamic. The result, he hopes, will be a version of Spider-Man that moves like the character fans have spent years controlling on a console.
