Two charged in theft of 26 Nintendo Switch 2 games

Prosecutors in Hennepin County have charged two people in connection with the theft of 26 Nintendo Switch 2 games from a Best Buy store in Eden Prairie. The stolen merchandise is valued at over $1,800, according to court documents filed this week.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred earlier this month. Authorities say a man and a woman entered the store together and removed the games from the electronics section before leaving without paying. Store security reportedly observed the pair and notified local police, who later identified the suspects through surveillance footage and store records.

The two individuals now face felony theft charges. The man is also facing an additional charge of giving false information to police, after allegedly providing a fake name during the investigation. The woman is being held on a separate warrant unrelated to this case, according to the county attorney's office.

Nintendo Switch 2 games have been in high demand since the console's release, and retail theft of video game products has been a growing concern for stores across the country. Best Buy has not commented publicly on the incident, but the company has previously stated it works closely with law enforcement to address organized retail crime.

Both suspects are scheduled to appear in court later this month. If convicted, they could face up to five years in prison and fines. The games were not recovered, and authorities are asking anyone with information about the theft to contact Eden Prairie police.
