Pokémon fans have been quick to criticize Palworld as a cheap knockoff, but the game actually improves on the classic formula in meaningful ways. While the comparisons are inevitable, Palworld introduces mechanics that make the original Pokémon series feel outdated by comparison.
For starters, Palworld offers an open world that feels alive and interactive. Players can climb, glide, and build structures, turning the environment into a playground rather than a series of linear routes. The crafting system adds depth, allowing you to create weapons, armor, and even bases where your Pals can work autonomously. This level of player agency is something Pokémon has never fully embraced.
Combat also gets a refresh. Instead of turn-based battles, Palworld mixes real-time action with creature abilities. You can dodge, aim, and use weapons alongside your Pals, making fights more dynamic and less predictable. The survival elements, like hunger and temperature, force you to think strategically about exploration and resource management.
Then there is the automation. In Pokémon, your creatures mostly sit in their Poké Balls. In Palworld, they can mine ore, chop wood, cook food, and even operate assembly lines. This turns your collection into a functional workforce, adding a layer of strategy that goes beyond type matchups.
Palworld is not without flaws, but it dares to evolve the creature-collecting genre in ways Pokémon has avoided for decades. For players tired of the same formula, it is a refreshing change.
