The Summer Game Fest season wrapped up this week, and it delivered a flood of new trailers, release dates, and surprise reveals. While the sheer volume of announcements across the major showcases can be overwhelming, a handful of titles managed to cut through the noise. Here are ten of the most impressive games we saw during the combined events from Summer Game Fest, Nintendo Direct, PlayStation State of Play, and the Xbox Game Showcase.
Leading the pack was a new open-world action RPG from a veteran studio, promising a living world that reacts to player choices in real time. The footage showed dynamic weather systems and massive creature battles that looked genuinely next-gen. Another highlight was a stylish, cel-shaded platformer that blends wall-running with a unique time-rewind mechanic, drawing comparisons to the best of the genre.
On the horror front, a psychological thriller set on a derelict space station stole the show with its oppressive atmosphere and clever use of sound design. The trailer revealed almost nothing about the story, leaving fans to speculate wildly. For strategy fans, a long-awaited sequel to a classic city-builder was finally confirmed, featuring improved AI and a full campaign mode set across multiple biomes.
Nintendo Direct brought a charming new co-op adventure featuring two unlikely animal protagonists, while PlayStation State of Play debuted a gritty, narrative-driven shooter with a striking noir art style. Xbox rounded out the season with a massive fantasy RPG that showed off a seamless world with no loading screens, alongside a surprise revival of a cult classic racing franchise.
Indie developers also had a strong showing. One standout was a hand-drawn puzzle game about manipulating memories, and another was a chaotic multiplayer brawler where players control giant, customizable robots. With release dates ranging from later this year to early 2028, the next few months are shaping up to be packed with great options.
